Enabling Data Centralization: Boosting Cost Savings, Modernization, and Data Access

Business Case:  McDermott, a leading engineering and construction firm in the energy sector, operates globally in 54 countries with over 30,000 employees, specialty vessels, and worldwide fabrication facilities.  Transitioning from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange, McDermott faced challenges in accessing legacy Notes data while maintaining systems for both active and departed users across North American offices.  The resource and licensing costs to migrate this extensive data to Exchange were prohibitively high.

Highlights & Impact:  “The success of our project with Zantaz Data Resources in North America allowed McDermott to discontinue costly maintenance and support for Domino and Lotus Notes.  In fact, we expanded it to address the additional Lotus Notes data in our international office, which consisted of an additional 30 TB of data gathered from all over the world.” - John Shaull, McDermott International

Methodology:  Zantaz Data Resources helped McDermott centralize over 50 TB of Lotus Notes data from North American offices to the Zantaz data center, integrating it into the McDermott Zovy Archive for easy legal eDiscovery and user access.  Converting data to Microsoft Exchange format enabled McDermott to decommission hardware, Domino server, and Lotus Notes licenses, leading to the project's expansion to international offices.
